Sharif Abdel Kouddous: Egyptians Celebrate as Mubarak Stands Trial For Murder, Corruption

DemocracyNow.org – In Egypt, the trial of former president, Hosni Mubarak, has been adjourned until August 15. On Wednesday, Mubarak appeared in court for the first time, along with his two sons, Gamal and Alaa. He was brought into the courtroom on a hospital stretcher. Mubarak denied all the charges against him which include profiteering, illegal business-dealing involving Israeli gas exports, and the unlawful killing of protesters during the revolution. Democracy Now! correspondent Sharif Abdel Kouddous was outside the courtroom where crowds had gathered to watch, many expressing relief that justice could be served for the victims of the revolution. Women, Power and Corruption

The Supreme court has said that Kanimozhi can return to the trial court for bail with an appeal for leniency on grounds of being a woman. But should women get leniency in such corruption cases?

THRIVE Corporation, a Startup Educational Consulting Firm, Launches Center for Advocacy Against Corporate Corruption; Launches Measures Against Bank of America

THRIVE Corporation, a Startup Educational Consulting Firm, Launches Center for Advocacy Against Corporate Corruption; Launches Measures Against Bank of America

Boston, MA (PRWEB) January 28, 2006

THRIVE Corporation, a startup educational consulting firm serving Boston youth, launches their Center for Advocacy Against Corporate Corruption; Starts by Launching Measures Against Bank of America.

Although THRIVE is a new company still seeking venture capital and even a corporate status, they start their first in a long line of projects: the CAACC, or the Center for Advocacy Against Corporate Corruption. Later plans include Washington DC advocates, full campaigns and partnership agreements with major organizations. Despite THRIVE being primarily an educational company serving youth in grades 5-12 with a range of learning styles and differences, their CEO and Founder, Greg Hard, has bigger goals.

“THRIVE Corporation is an educational consulting firm serving everyone, regardless of income, and subsidizing low income student families for the betterment of literacy,” Hard said, in a public release transcript of their first staff meeting. “But we’re expanding already. Once our educational goals are met and we are servicing students of all shapes and sizes, advancing literacy and getting them into and through school, we want to help advance other aspects of life that the government is letting slide.”

His first target? Bank of America. “Even before we begin the CAACC as an official entity owned by THRIVE, we’re testing the waters. We have established a team to deal with a corporate giant.”

How are they doing that? Their publicist responds:

“We are compiling complaint after complaint against Bank of America for our investigation,” said Kelly Varnet, THRIVE’s Vice President of Public Information. “Banks in general, not just Bank of America, rely on big wallets and hungry lawyers to intimidate legitimate customers, such as THRIVE’s CEO, Greg Hard” Varnet added.
