‘Corrupt’ police in Mexico drug war
Mexican police have detained one their own commanders in the violence-plagued city of Ciudad Juarez following allegations of links to the country’s drug cartels.
Officers also accused the federal commander of protecting criminals in the city, where more than 5,000 federal police and soldiers have been deployed in an effort to replace local police considered too corrupt to be effective.

Tax scandal hits Indonesian anti-corruption drive
Indonesia is trying to clean up its legal system, in which 80 per cent of police, judges and other officials are believed to be taking bribes worth millions of dollars.
But an unfolding scandal is threatening to increase pressure on Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the president, to step up reforms to stamp out corruption.
The latest case in which corrupt tax and law officials allegedly accepted bribes in return for lower tax bills has triggered a public outcry.
