Lois Roma-Deeley Explores Practical Dimensions of Social Justice and Equity in New Book

Lois Roma-Deeley Explores Practical Dimensions of Social Justice and Equity in New Book

Hopkins, MN (PRWEB) April 13, 2010

With its many thematic riffs and harmonic phrasings, Lois Roma-Deeley’s newest collection of poems, High Notes, invites the reader into the shadowy jazz scene of the late 1950s, where music and language fuse into a road of longing and desire. Each of the main characters—hustler, jazzman, singer, waitress and even the one hovering angel who speaks to each of them—struggles with the tyranny of choice.

High Notes won the Benu Press Samuel T. Coleridge Prize, an award honoring an outstanding, contemporary work of literature that fulfills Coleridge’s vision of the artist as a reconciling architect of the imagination. Such a work invites us to examine our understanding of the world, establishing new meaning in a just future transformed by possibility.

About the Author

Lois Roma-Deeley has won the Samuel T. Coleridge Prize for High Notes, poems that make readers “rethink and reshape” their views of life.

Critics have called her poems “brilliant,” “tough and brave,” “poignant,” “a vital chorus” and “soul-satisfying.” Roma-Deeley has won numerous awards and honors for her poetry, including awards for the Allen Ginsberg Poetry Competition and the Emily Dickinson Poetry Competition, and recognition as a finalist in the Paumanok International Poetry Contest. She has published in eight national anthologies, including forthcoming work in American Book Award winner Looking for Home; The American Voice in Poetry: the Legacy of Whitman, Williams and Ginsberg; and Letters to the World. In addition, Roma-Deeley’s poems have been exhibited in collaboration with visual artists nationally and internationally. High Notes forms the basis of a jazz opera she is writing with composer Christopher Scinto. Currently, she is Poet-in-Residence at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, Arizona. High Notes is her third collection of poems.

Advance praise for Lois Roma-Deeley’s High Notes

“The poetry is terse and direct, packed with significance. She creates language to capture a beautiful experience; the music of the lines alternate between dark and bright, sad and happy, mean and sweet. This is pain poetry—pain endured, celebrated, loved and danced to. This poetry tastes blood, not the blood of hospitals or healing but of open wounds getting wider, deeper, unforgiving. It’s taut, tough, in your face, and it orchestrates like a mad symphony of howls and laughter—and blues, blues, blues, baby—that burn to read. It’s a clean, crisp, starlight fire that’ll lead you back to your life purpose and make you rethink and reshape your view of life.” – Jimmy Santiago Baca

“In the emotionally rich and technically varied rhythms of High Notes, the voices of four men and women, black and white, negotiate between the excitements of jazz and the constrictions of poverty and drugs, accompanied and overseen by an angel’s presence. Jazz greats make cameo appearances in this lyrical, fragmented narrative, but the spotlight is on the invented characters. From sonnets and other fixed forms to jazz-inspired improvisations and prose poems, the book’s shifting styles reflect the characters’ complex lives. Incomplete, unresolved, hovering between tragedy and redemption, their story stays with us.” – Martha Collins

“Containing riffs and improvisations in various keys and tempos, Lois Roma-Deeley’s High Notes captures the starkness and despair of the late 1950s jazz scene, where every blues number is fueled by alcohol, heroin and guilt. High Notes unrolls like a period film in blacks, whites and all the shades of gray, telling the intertwined stories of four characters who can endure anything except the absence of hope.” – R.S. Gwynn

New Book Theorizes Emergence, Effect of Third Major Political Party

New Book Theorizes Emergence, Effect of Third Major Political Party

Fredericksburg, VA (Vocus/PRWEB) January 26, 2011

If a third political party were bent on buying back the United States as a gift to American citizens, would it be trusted?

In her third book The Pinnacle Seven, author Jackie Richards explores the idea, tying together mystery, murder and political corruption to bring readers a thought-provoking, revealing read. When television journalist Cassie Danforth’s father is dying, his final words lead to unpredictable changes in her life and she soon finds herself immersed in a murder investigation and a mysterious third political party financed by patriots.

“It’s a woven tapestry of mystery and romance, and at the same time touches on our country’s problems,” says Richards.

Addressing current issues of political corruption and the loss of “middle America,” The Pinnacle Seven weaves together political fact and philosophy to ultimately demonstrate the overall effect of power.

Capitalizing on timeliness as modern Americans voice their desire for a party that will effectively govern and bring back a strong middle class, The Pinnacle Seven illustrates one group’s plans to buy back America, ridding it of corporate corruption and reinstating the power of the people.

“I am not convinced that either of the present parties have the welfare of American citizens at the top of their agendas,” says Richards. “Power and greed are two sources of our country’s present catastrophic condition.”

San Jose Author Timothy Fitzgerald’s New Book ‘A Diamond in the Rough’ Reflects on America’s Worst Recession in the 1980s

San Jose Author Timothy Fitzgerald’s New Book ‘A Diamond in the Rough’ Reflects on America’s Worst Recession in the 1980s

(PRWEB) March 9, 2011

San Jose community activist and author Timothy Fitzgerald’s new book “‘A Diamond in the Rough” reflects on America’s worst recession, which occurred in the 1980s. This horrific recession started in July 1981. Unemployment skyrocketed to a whopping 10.8 percent in November 1982 under the Reagan administration. Over 100,000 Americans lost their homes in 1982 and homelessness skyrocketed.

“Thirty years ago, I experienced America’s worst recession while recovering from a disabling illness,” said author and activist Timothy Fitzgerald. “As a young man in my thirties, I remember its dire effects. People could not find jobs and some were forced to join the ranks of the homeless.”

Fitzgerald continued, “Today, in America’s Great Recession, almost 14 million Americans are jobless. We must avoid the failed policies of the Reagan administration and find new and innovative ways to lift Americans from our recurring slumps.”

Timothy Fitzgerald’s new book, “A Diamond in the Rough” is the second volume in his trilogy in which he along with others fight for much-desired urban renewal in San Jose in the 1970s and 1980s. Fitzgerald and his comrades join the working class of Silicon Valley to implement low-income housing and jobs for the working poor. Fitzgerald later runs for San Jose City Council in 1982. “A Diamond in the Rough” is slated to be released in late March 2011.

The first volume of the trilogy, “The Wawona Brotherhood: The San Jose State Campus Revolt,” chronicles Fitzgerald’s civil rights experiences at San Jose State University during the turbulent 1960s through the early 1970s. This volume was released in 2009.

The trilogy notes that from his time as an undergraduate, Mr. Fitzgerald has been a community activist in San Jose for over thirty years. In the 1990s, he ran for State Assembly and was the Vice Chairman of the Disability Advisory Commission of San Jose in 1997. In addition, Fitzgerald was a Green Party state leader for fifteen years.

Fitzgerald is enrolled in the over-60 program at San Jose State University as a post-graduate student; and is now completing his third master’s degree. He is on track to be awarded this degree in Philosophy in fall 2011.

Mr. Fitzgerald has been a guest on American Voice Radio Network’s New World Order Disorder, LA Talk Radio’s Bipolar Nation, San Francisco radio station KPOO’s Community Worker, San Jose radio station KKUP’s Silicon Valli Voice and has appeared on San Jose radio station KBAY and Mammoth Lakes radio station KMMT. He also has been interviewed by the San Jose Mercury News, San Jose State Spartan Daily along with the Mammoth Times and Los Gatos Times Weekly. He also recently authored an article for AAboomers.com.

Book Reclaims Cultural Values Fought for by Founding Fathers

Book Reclaims Cultural Values Fought for by Founding Fathers

Longwood, FL (PRWEB) April 17, 2008

In our culture, many corrupted ideas of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness have been promoted and accepted for so long that they bear the superficial appearance of being right. Americans design lifestyles and build financial plans around these ideas without realizing oppression lies just beneath their surface–a tyranny far worse than the British crown ever stamped on us. By exploring the causes and the destructive effects of excess, Josh Gilliam’s ‘A Declaration of Financial Independence’ ($ 15.99, paperback, 978-1-60477-528-0; $ 25.99, hardcover, 978-1-60477-529-7) is a rallying cry for preserving our sacred freedoms. It empowers the reader with a biblical perspective for financial decision-making and reveals the secret of contentment in an age of unprecedented wealth.

Says Gilliam, “Applying Biblical principles to our financial lives is the most important factor of financial planning. It requires us to take a new set of risks, but the reward is far greater than we can imagine. In fact, the improper perspective of prosperity leads to discontentment and dependency. Financial calculations do not determine financial independence or economic freedom; the heart factors them.”

Gilliam believed his life to be on the path to financial independence and economic freedom. But little did he know that he was building a life of financial dependency and oppression. He believes that consumerism and materialism are impalpable diseases that are deteriorating the spiritual and intellectual fabric of our society. He continues to battle them personally and is committed to reclaiming our culture and protecting the values and freedoms fought for and won by our founding fathers.

Xulon Press, a part of Salem Communications Corporation, is the world’s largest Christian publisher, with more than 4,000 titles published to date. Retailers may order ‘A Declaration of Financial Independence’ through Ingram Book Company and/or Spring Arbor Book Distributors.

Author of ?The Fixer? Addresses Issues in His Book at Interview in New York

Fresh Meadows, NY (PRWEB) October 13, 2005

Teddy Moore, author of the book “The Fixer” has addressed issues of his book at an interview in New York on Oct. 11, 2005 (http://www.cinemazo.com/TheFixer.wmv). The interview lasted for an hour and addressed main issues of current affairs.

The interview addressed also major issues plaguing the judiciary, the court of appeals, lack of supervision by the congress and he offered his opinions as to how to overhaul the system.

Mr. Moore raised issues of extreme corruption of US legal system, he described it as a racket of extortion where the judge extort an attorney, which is easy pray, for a fee paid by the attorney fixer from the party opponent. He said all the corruption and extortion are approved by the court of appeals all the time; he claims that the court of appeals in USA is just a phony show with known results upfront.

“Only the paying client does not know that the case is fixed. Congress people which most of them are attorneys will not interfere in the corruption for fear of the judiciary, and they look forward after life in congress to join the racket and make a buck of it, therefore the congress is not the solution and is part of the problem,” he said. “The US Supreme Court supervises the racket of extortion, bribes and extreme corruption.” The author claims that the US judiciary is liable for more damage and injuries to US people then the Nazis. He blames the media for not revealing the extreme corruption but rather presenting it as an abnormality of a single bad apple when they know that in this system there cannot be good apples.

The author is currently working with others on an adaptation of the book into a screenplay, which eventually will be produced into a feature film like “Civil Action “ with John Travolta, or a kind of Erin Brockovich type of movie.

No shooting date for the movie has been decided yet. For more info about the book and the movie see www.TheFixer.info

US Establishment Embraces the Book ‘The Fixer: Why U.S. Judiciary is So Corrupt?’

Fresh Meadows, NY (PRWEB) February 11, 2006

The book “The Fixer: Why US Judiciary is so corrupt?” received unexpected thumbs up from the US establishment. Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York calls the book: “Fascinating and gripping read and a foray into the underbelly of our judicial system.” The author of the book Teddy Moore chronicles what he says is the most kept secret in US history: The extreme corruption of US judiciary.

Moore says the main problem with the legal system as he sees it is that the legal system doesn’t admit to the obvious, which is that the legal system is corrupt. “You don’t know about the corruption because the media doesn’t report it”, Moore says. “They call it a single bad apple but the bad apples are everywhere…on the top of the barrel, in the middle, on the bottom … everywhere … they refuse to report it for what it is.”

The legal system is built to be corrupt and not to make justice. Moore says. “This is the uniqueness of the US legal system. The U.S. legal system created a system to make money for attorneys and judges. In order to do so, they created a kind of extortionate attorneys. An extortable attorney to the judge has to comply with everything the judge asks him to do and can only be explained as the extreme means of greed of the judiciary.”

“Attorneys fear the judiciary because the system is built in this way…so they can be easily be extortable to the judge…. the judge can easily accept money from one party and extort the attorney of the party opponent and so close a case without knowing or hearing anything about the facts or the law. People who believe that they come to a court to decide their case based on the facts and the law are terribly mistaken. It’s a Mecca of just siphoning money to the judges,” Moore asserts in his book.

He says that Congress is part of the problem. “Most of the Congressmen are attorneys that are afraid of the judiciary, afraid to be disbarred and sanctioned, look forward for the time they are out of Congress and join the corruption and make a buck for themselves. Therefore they cannot be part of the solution.” Recent polls support his claim that show that most of US citizen believe that their congressman or senator takes bribes.

These kinds of fellows he claims cannot clean up the corrupt judiciary.

“The Court of Appeals is a phony show in the US. The outcome of an appeal is well known. The only one who doesn’t know the outcome of an appeal is the client who paid the money for the phony show. Had he knew it was a phony show, he wouldn’t have paid the money,” Moore says.

“The US Supreme Court supervises the racket of extortion, bribes and extreme corruption.” The author claims that the US judiciary is liable for more damage and injuries to US people than the Nazis.

Pres. Barack Obama Spawns ‘Obamalism’ Psychosis; New DVD and Book Examines the Mania and Discovery of a Previously Unknown Syndrome

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) February 2, 2009

Zerrubabel Media has just released a new DVD, “Obamalism,” to accompany a previously released book, “Day of Perdition.”

“Obamalism” the DVD is available at http://www.zerubmedia.com. Obamalism explores the phenomenon that has turned mania into psychosis. The producer says that symptoms of Obamalism may include a loss of contact with reality.

The book, Day of Perdition, (346 pages) is available in paperback at Amazon.com and in ebook format at http://www.zerubmedia.com.

Both the DVD and book use quotes and articles from many sources proving that our world is being run by a select group of people. The author/producer shows how for the first time in history the economy has eclipsed character as the most important issue in deciding our fate.

Then on to the subject of Barack Obama. Day of Perdition author Kaelyn Hart presents evidence regarding every facet of Obama’s character and corresponding actions, including: his voting record, vision for the future, his heritage, the smear campaign aka inconvenient truths regarding the questions the American people have asked on his Muslim, socialism and black liberation theology ties, those “pesky” friends that keep popping up, his character, his attempts to silence the critics, the eerie similarities to Adolf Hitler, his spirituality, the adoration from celebrities, media and the world and the phenomenon of his “messiah-like” qualities.”

Day of Perdition continues with a look at what’s on the horizon from a Christian perspective: the New World Order; the Rapture and the rise of the Antichrist.

The novel ends with questions as to why we as Christians allowed this to happen, where the voices are of our pastors and finishes with a call to live a revolutionary Christian life and the hope of our future.
