How do you become a police officer in the State of New York?

I know that in New Jersey you take a civil service exam for the whole state but I am not familiar with how you do it in the state of New York. I’m not talking about State police or NYPD FYI. Is there a state test that would need to be taken? Just Curious. Thanks.

Yep. You have to take the test as your first step.
