Kid Mercury, an Internet entrepreneur, musician, conspiracy theorist, and economist, is starting the new year off with two publications: the book Web 2012: Birth of the New World Order and the rock opera Revolution From My Bed. Kid’s plan to save the world begins with the creation of a content fund — an investment fund that will invest in helping talented digital publishers use their content to build vibrant online communities, which can then be turned into full-blown economies — complete with their own virtual currency. Kid has been working in Internet marketing and online community development for the past seven years, and has spent the past four years developing a prototype for how to build economically viable communities with their own money supply for digital publishers. “Digital publishers need a business model, and the world needs new forms of money,” Kid said. “Both these problems are intersecting, and the solution is being revealed.”
In Kid’s opinion, the biggest obstacle to executing the plan to save the world lies not in technical, legal, or business model challenges, but rather in changing the psychology of the people of the world. “The biggest hurdle the plan to save the world faces will be the marketing challenge of overcoming the many psychological obstacles people have surrounding money and government,” Kid said. “I’m hoping music can be an effective marketing tool to generate the passion needed for this venture, and that my book can help educate people on how feasible and appropriate this plan is.” The first single being released and marketed off Revolution From My Bed, a live album recorded entirely in apartments Kid has lived in, is “Proud to be a Conspiracy Theorist.”
As for the future, Kid plans to take this revolution beyond the imaginary realm of cyberspace digital currencies and into the real world. “Once we have people connected and new communities established, we can use RFID technology and near-field communications systems — two technologies that will be a part of smartphones in the very near future — to bring this coordination to the real world,” Kid said. “This is not just about escapism via cyberspace. It’s about economic freedom and rebuilding society.”
